The number of times I lost my niece in the department store because she would magically become part of some display! These grey hairs are from her.
Haha! My daughter has tried it a few times, but I can always hear her giggling to herself.
Ha! I used to do this all the time when I was a kid. And it was hilarious until my own son pulled the same on me the other day. Now I think it is terrible and cruel. But oh, the middle of the circular clothing rack, you are so safe and warm.
Okay, I MIGHT have done it once or twice, so I do understand the appeal :) The cosiness and feeling of security…

Oh Nicki, my then-2-year-old daughter did this is a crowded mall at Christmas and I thought I was going to have a heart attack. Great, great expressions (as usual)!

I love how everyone learns the same hiding tricks, the same panic-inducing fear tactics to play on their parents, and the same bewildered response.

Ooooooooh, round racks in a department store! Best. Story. Ever: My sister, at the very self-important age of 13, is shopping in Deb. My dad gets down on all fours, crawls through a circular rack and starts mooing like a cow!
She still turns red when we tell this story. (Sorry sis….nah, not really) [I can soooo picture this as you would illustrate it too!] :D

Excellent! My poor mom, always dealing with my brothers and me all running off and hiding. There was just something so fun and magical about hiding in those racks. Of course, me kids do this now. Payback. Everything comes full circle.
That full circle thing is NOT fun. I was an insufferable know-it-all as a child. Now I have 3 year old who knows EVERYTHING and is constantly correcting me. So great.

Oh, yes! My kids do something similar. Only they keep an I on my moves (they change hiding locations as I move around the shop). The good thing about this “method” that I don’t get stressed where they are. I just start queuing at the check out and when it is my turn to pay they join me.

When I was a kid, there was a certain children’s clothing store in the mall that had a ball pit–of course, it’s long since been gone, and replaced with a Gap store instead. Anyway, my mom would take me and my brother there, and we’d play in the ball pit while she picked out our clothes. The only drawback was, a lot of the clothes at that store were UGLY, so we had a choice–we could either play in the ball pit for the time we were in the store, or have input into wardrobe decisions that’d affect us until we outgrew or wore out the clothes. That’s a pretty stressful decision to make when you’re five or six.
Awesome post :) I’ve only been paged over store intercoms once. I should add that throughout my childhood I was left at drive-thrus and Wal-Marts more times that I can count :)

I don’t remember ever doing this, but my children have started to love hiding in the clothes at department stores.
Aw, I miss that splendid place! Hey, wait a minute…maybe I could take my iPad in there and check out for the day?
This was very amusing and i loved it so. It reminds me of when i was younger and liked to hide in small places at the stores so no one could find me. Its probably one of the best things a kid does at the store. I know that i loved doing that and watching my brother trying to find me. Another fun thing that was fun to do in the stores was get in a shopping cart and let my brother push me really fast like a racing car. You should make a picture thing based on that. Just a thought. Anyways i loved this it was amazing it made my day!!
