Hello everyone! I’ve been traveling a lot and am now suffering some sort of plague. The fever plus the August heat have inspired this particular comic. I’ve spent the last two nights too hot to fall asleep, and actually did pick up a book of ghost stories just to feel goosebumps again.
Happy birthday to Charlotte, who loved “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark” as a kid. Still the scariest illustrations imaginable!
Brilliant as usual!! Get well soon :)
Thanks! :)
Feel better!
Thank you!
I just hate being sick in the summer. It sucks big time. This is funny though. :-) Get better real soon!
It is totally unfair. Thanks for the well-wishes!
Yay, Sister is back!
The plague is the worst, especially in the summer. Get well soon and stuff.
It’s good to be back, even if it is through a fog of cough medicine and head congestion :)
Bella Idea! good Idea !
Thank you! :)
I hope you feel better soon. I LOVE this one, especially the last frame!
Thanks :) I love a good ghost story
Scared well? Is that possible!
Hahaha, I don’t know, but I’m ready to give it a shot!
This is an amazing comic! I love the book cover. Well done!
Feel better soon!
The book cover really does creep me out!
Me too!
Thanks :) I looked up the illustrations with the same dread/anticipation/delight as when I was a kid!
get well soon…
Thanks, I’m trying!
Have you tried some Neil Diamond?
Get well! :-)
:D Thanks!
I wish I knew about this solution when it’s been a thousand degrees in my bedroom and I’m without an AC! Cheapest solution ever!
Yes, but then there’s the problem of being too scared to sleep…
I feel your pain. I’ve had a touch of the plague since early July. Yuck.
Oh, no! That’s MUCH too long! I hope you feel better soon.
Being scared always makes me dive for the covers too. Cute, and hope you feel better!
Thanks :) I used to be too afraid to even let my feet hang out of the covers, well into my twenties.
Just can’t get enough of your posts— fabulous! Love the fan, the cover of the book, the whole imagery is perfect for those hot summer blah nights. Since we moved to the Pacific NW, I don’t worry much about hot nights, but I had years and years of it… the only thing that would make this scene worse/more miserable, would be that lone mosquito that buzzes around your head all night, but can’t find. Hope you feel better soon!
You are so right! Thanks for the well-wishes :)
Love your light effects with the torch. V clever. Spent many a night with the torch under the covers! Get well soon.
Me, too! I’d stay up much too late, eyes practically closed from exhaustion, but unwilling to put down the book. I still do it, actually, only now I don’t have to hide under the covers, thankfully.
Ugh..being sick in the summer just goes against all logic. Feel better!
It does! I didn’t even know it was possible.
I love the dumping of the water. LOL! Feel better soon.
Thank you! :)
If you’ve got the rigors from a fever, you might as well shiver over some scary stories too. Loved the pictures. RBPinckney

:D Absolutely!
Ha! Ha! I’ve tried the fan and water too, for my own heat plague (it’s called being over 40 in my case). Works for about 2 minutes, as you have evidently discovered. Thanks for the goose bump producing stories idea. Here’s another one: a close encounter with a spider perhaps? Shivers. Hey! It works. Hoping your plague is all gone already. Sleep tight. Don’t let the ghosties bite!
Haha! That might do it! Actually, the last creepy-crawly to give me goosebumps was a large palmetto bug I saw out of the corner of my eye while reading a book late at night. I screamed and jumped up and then realized it was only my own big toe. I’m going to blame the cough medicine for that one.
YES I remember having that book!! I can’t believe those were for children, but I don’t think it did me too much damage. Great post as always!
The stories have stuck with me all these years. They were terrifying! The dog that turned out to be a sewer rat! The woman whose head feel off when the ribbon around her neck was untied! Brrrrrrrrr
I will have to try this, I have a zombie book I’ve been putting off reading. It’s stupid hot and humid these days, and usually worse inside my house than outside. Japan is not a good place for Canadians in summer – they actually have a word that translates as “summer melting.” (>_<) Great post!
Summer melting– how perfect and evocative! Today, I can only read scary stories in mid-day. Any closer to bedtime, and I’d never sleep. Good luck beating the heat!
I do that all the time.
P.S. I am the middlest sister :)
I LOVE meeting middlest sisters! :) Some day, I will develop a special badge just for middlest children.
But you already did that!!!!! by creating this awesome blog :)
The fact that you can laugh when feeling blech is a great sign: you and the creepy story are about to feel better any minute!
Oh, I used every last scrap of energy the day I made this one. I nearly gave up 3 times in order to crawl home and fall asleep on the couch. It was actually a tweet from a friend that kept me going that day… “must… finish… comic…”! Thankfully, I feel much better now!
I know just what you mean about the hot, muggy August nights…until the last panel. Scary stories to raise goosebumps? What a great idea!
Hope you are now plague-free.

Hi guys! I’m on vacation, and I hope to have a new comic for you when I get back. Until then, please enjoy this repeat, August Nights. Keep cool!
Get well soon!! Sorry to hear that you are not the best :(
I love your artwork, I hope you can support yourself with it.. if not I’m guessing it makes you quite happy at least.
Thank you! I’m always happy and at peace in my cut paper world :)
