I have often fallen back on “Whatever your name is!”
-
My mom used to call out all six of our names. We’d show up, and she’d point to one of us. “YOU!” The rest of us would scatter in seconds.
-
my mother does that too! lol!

i even used to add the dog’s name into the mix
-
For us, it usually ended in “. . . whoever you are.” :)

I had three male cousins and a brother, all older than me. My grandmother always tried to call them by both their first and middle names, and some of them were repeats. She hardly ever got them right, but it was charming watching her try.

My (adult) brother finally objected when my mother called him by a string of names including the dog’s – the dog had died a year or two before. He said, “I don’t mind being called by a dog’s name but to be called by a dead dog’s name is too much!”

we were only three and still there were mix-ups

I was always called by my sister’s name, though she was never referred to by mine! Mum always got the boyfriends names muddled too. Dad would simply ask ‘Now which one are you?’
-
That’s hysterical. We use to get the whole list of names thrown at us when we were in trouble including Susie, Betsy and Buttons…they were the dogs. When it went that far you knew you had to run.

What was Charlotte even doing wrong in this story? I see her playing dress-up with a kitchen strainer and some string, and she had a hammer in her hand. Strange, yeah, but I wouldn’t really call that “bad behaviour” unless she was doing something with the hammer that she shouldn’t.

I’m the 5th of 5. Every lecture started with my dad reciting all of them, starting from my eldest sister. I finally, in a fit of pique, told him to just call me #5. It became his nick-name for me for the rest of his life…

Hahaha! My mother once stood at the bottom of the stairs and shouted up at me, the only person or animal up there: “Ricky, Katie, Sarah, Beth, Billy*….. BECKY, GET DOWN HERE!”*Billy was the cat.

Hahaha! Yes.

Totally understand. My mother did it, I did it even with pet names lol.

Oh my goodness, so true! I’m the oldest of 5 siblings. All the girls have names that begin with H: Heather, Holly, and Heidi. We invented the name “Heitholly” (pronounced HI-thol-lee) to describe the mythical sister always being called by adults who couldn’t remember our additional names.
