The Middlest Sister is a comic written and illustrated by me, Nicole Belanger Smeltzer. It is based on memories of growing up with four sisters. Each comic is painstakingly cut and pasted from scrap paper and other garbage I find in the junk drawer and recycling bin. You can find my other cut-paper works, illustrations, and paintings over at nicolesmeltzer.com

  1. Your blog is amazing! Congrats Nicki! Your mom must be so proud! So, at what age did she finally stop buying your family new goldfish to replace the “expired” ones?! ;)

  2. Dear Nicole, c/o The Middlest Sister,

You have made it to my blogroll for your attention to the craft of Storytelling. Thank you for your reflections on the human experience.

As an only child, I grew up jealous of the kind of friendship and activity my friends’ siblings provided. I continue to live vicariously, and the humor of sister stories makes me smile every time I experience it.

    Sincerely,

  4. You’re blog is really interesting ^_^ I mean that in a good way, not the creepy -_- way, so dont worry ^_^ I really like your blog, it’s very very creative. I could NEVER find the time to cut up paper although I would do it

  6. The Middlest Sister is a clever and creative blog…I guess it paid to be in the middle of it all, with all the stories you can now share (or maybe it’s therapeutic). Ever thought of developing a children’s book? Just a thought

All the best and much success to you in the future.

  9. Collage style web comic – what a wonderful mix of genius and cute fun! However, the downside of discovering this blog is that from now on whenever I look at a baked potato, I will immediately think of manatees. Ah well, I’ll just add extra butter and sour cream! :)

  10. Hi Nicole,
Visiting via JackieP, she was right…
I know it’s already been said, but I would also like to congratulate you on having one of the most unique WP Blogs around.
It’s not really a surprise that you were freshly pressed, your artwork and incorporation of it into your Blog and posts are excellent. :-)
