A Valentine for Ewe

Chrissy spreads the valentine's day cards out in front of her, her heart heavy.

You're still filling out those valentines, honey? What's taking so long?

Just LOOK at these valentines.

The sappy valentines lay before her.

"Bee mine"? I can't give that to a boy! They'll think I LIKE them!

The only one remotely platonic is "Beary kind"... but like I really want to give that to some scab-eater.

I just think the makers of these kits need to get a litle more realistic..

You are fowl

It’s kind of late, but if you simply MUST have “You Are Fowl” as a card, I added it to the Zazzle shop here. If you can’t see it yet, it may take a day to process.

OR you can print these mini valentines for FREE if you want!

Here is the pdf of all the valentines

And one of just the FOWL valentines

Happy Valentine’s Day, everybody!

Happy Valentine’s Day to you, too!

  2. whatimeant2say Avatar

I think you have found your calling – realistic kid Valentines. I always had that problem, too, when I was a kid. Honestly, I think any boy I would have given the last “You are Fowl” one to would have been ecstatic!

    1. themiddlestsister Avatar

Ha! I’ll have to start earlier next year to create some really good ones.

      1. whatimeant2say Avatar

        I’m telling you – it’s a goldmine!

Haha, I always loved picking out Valentine’s to give out at class and then reading the ones I got to figure out who was secretly in love with me. I would have liked to give out the “You Are Fowl” though to a few people I know. Heck, I’d even give that one out to some people I know now!

    1. themiddlestsister Avatar

Oh, I used to do it, too. I would analyze the handwriting… did he spell my name right? Did he write it really carefully or with some flourish? ….wait, did his mom write this? Ah, Valentine’s Day.

I think I specifically remember being a little jerk and skipping the valentine envelopes of icky boys in elementary school. I absolutely love the cards on this one, though, all of them. I also appreciated the list of names in the first panel with the pencil detail.

    1. themiddlestsister Avatar

      Awww, poor icky boys.

    2. Michael Cargill Avatar

As a former icky boy who used to run around playing football and jumping in puddles, I am very offended.

      1. Noteworthy Avatar

Adult me is sorry! I’m sure you weren’t/aren’t that icky!

        1. Michael Cargill Avatar

          Apology… DENIED.

          I demand a kiss.

    Amazing.

Please turn the “You are Fowl” one into an actual Valentine’s Day card. I promise you I will give it to the girlfriend.

    1. themiddlestsister Avatar

Haha! I added it to the zazzle shop here, but I’m not sure it will get to you in time for Valentine’s Day!

    2. themiddlestsister Avatar

I’m working on a pdf of mini-fowl valentines. Almost done!

Great post. I remember my girls filling out the cards. My youngest daughter carefully thought about each Valentine and who she would give it too. She did not want to give a card to many of her classmates, I don’t recall how we got around that one without hurting feelings. Have a great day.

    1. themiddlestsister Avatar

This day is fraught with emotional turmoil for tender little hearts.

That’s awesome. I love its glowing eyes and snake-like head. I wonder what presenting someone with that valentine tells them…

    1. themiddlestsister Avatar

Geese are the worst. If someone gives you a thing with a goose on it… it means you are the worst. :)

  12. MegansBeadedDesigns Avatar

    WONDERFUL !

I can think of quite a few people I would just LOVE to be able to give this card to…

    1. themiddlestsister Avatar

haha, now you can! You can leave it anonymously in their cubbies.

  13. Angie Z. Avatar

I loved this! I also used to agonize over what cards to give and what lovey word might be misinterpreted. I even agonized over the messages on the conversation hearts. Thank God they finally made benign ones like “you’re cool”. I still remember the card I got from a boy I liked that I was hoping would be lovey-dovey. Instead it was Mr. T: “I pity the fool who won’t be my valentine.”

Those valentines you made are the best!

    1. themiddlestsister Avatar

Aw, I bet the boy who gave you Mr. T gave it to you because Mr. T was the coolest and so are you.

So funny! My kids haven’t quite hit that point yet as far as writing them. But every now and then when my son gets one from a girl who likes him, it doesn’t matter what it says, the verdict is always “Ew!” Can’t wait until they fret over the messages they send.

Ahahaha…I was just reminiscing with my roommate about this very thing the other day. Valentines are such a big deal in elementary school! Now I’m all grown up…and I hardly care at all who gets which Barbie valentine when I bring them to work tomorrow :) Except Chris D. is DEFINITELY not getting the one that says “U R Cool” because, well, why lie?

    Happy Valentine’s Day!

This cracked me up! I used to carefully choose the least incriminating conversation heart messages for the boys’ valentines. It took me forever and drove my mom nuts- she should have bought red hot hearts.

I’m taking a short break from blogging in order to focus on a super-big project for The Middlest Sister. It is somewhere in the vicinity of 400 panels, so I have been cutting and pasting for 8+ hours every day and expect to keep on doing so until the very last panel is complete. I promise to return with a new comic shortly after that! Until then, here’s a reblog from last year. Happy Valentine’s Day!
